Who am I?
My name is Layla Qasim, and my passion for sports and movement started at a young age. Growing up, I was deeply involved in competitive downhill skiing and figure skating—two sports that challenged not only my physical ability, but also my focus, coordination, and resilience. To support my performance, my coaches began incorporating weightlifting into my training, using it as a tool to build strength, improve agility, and develop confidence in how I moved.
Outside of my main sports, I was always drawn to staying active. I enjoyed team environments just as much, playing volleyball and field hockey, which helped shape my athletic mindset and love for pushing myself in different ways.
Over time, weightlifting became more than just a supplement to my training—it became something I genuinely loved. With over eight years of experience, and a foundation rooted in athletic, no-nonsense strength training focused on real results, I knew I wanted to turn this passion into something bigger. I wanted to help others experience the same growth, confidence, and empowerment that training gave me.
In August 2025, I took the next step by beginning my certification as a Personal Training Specialist through CanFitPro. Around the same time, I set a new challenge for myself: preparing for my first powerlifting competition. Applying the principles I was learning, I coached myself through the process—progressing from a 545 lb total to nearly 700 lbs.
That experience was a turning point. Seeing firsthand how effective proper programming can be reinforced everything I believe about training. I’ve always been someone who learns best through hands-on experience, and going through that journey myself gave me the confidence and understanding to guide others with purpose.
Now, my goal is simple: to help people build real strength, move better, and feel more confident in their bodies—using methods that actually work.
